On the first day of term the
teachers were busy having a PE INSET day. As you will see on our curriculum
overview on the school website we have begun to implement a new PE
Scheme of Work called’ Real PE’. To compliment the new SOW, we will put a quick
and easy Home Challenge on the blog. Here is the first challenge.......
For how long can you balance
on one leg?
Can you improve your time?
Don’t forget to try the other leg too!
Here are a few pictures of
our visit from ‘Sir Ralph’:
The children have been very
enthusiastic about our ‘Newbridge 50’ learning question ‘Who discovered what?’
Thank you to those who have already brought things in for the learning wall
about Christopher Columbus or other explorers. Please do keep bringing things
in.
In Science, we are looking
at ‘Animals including humans’ for ‘Show and Tell’ we thought the children might
like to become experts on a particular animal of their choice and share their
knowledge with the class! Also, if the children have explored another country, perhaps
whilst on a holiday, they might like to share their experience during ‘Show and
Tell’ time. If you have a photo, we
would love to display this in the classroom.
As I am sure you all know,
we have now started giving the children spellings to learn. These will be will
be handed out on a Friday and tested the following Wednesday. The children have
been told the spellings and that they should use the ‘look’ ‘say’ ‘cover’
‘write’ and ‘check’ method to help learn them. The children will be learning to
spell tricky keywords and some of the words they learn in their daily phonics
lessons. If your child has difficulty remembering the whole word, please
encourage them to write as many sounds as they can hear. If your child is a
confident speller, encourage them to write sentences which include these words.
Here are the spellings for
the next few weeks just in case they don’t make it home in the book bag. Some children may find these challenging so
we have provided them with easier ones.
